Watched Twilight!

Yes, I did when I was in Trinoma. :) I kinda like the movie. Very romantic but a bit boring. I feel like its incomplete and you feel like you'll satisfy your craving by watching a second part of it or something like that. The hype it created also affected the way I see the movie somehow so I am making it a commitment to get myself a book and read it. This will be my first time to read a novel so I am kind of scared.

A friend of mine invited me to watch the movie; yes again! His treat. Sounds exciting so I relented. Anyway, who refuses a "treat?" :) This is a good chance for me to fully appreciate the movie. The one in Trinoma is very big and imagine yourself sitting in front! I experienced a hell of vertigo which lingered up to this day. =(

Twilight is written by Stephenie Meyer. She published the book, in hardcover, in 2005 and is the first of the series of books published so far which includes New Moon, Eclipse, Breaking Dawn, etc. I saw one of her interviews about the book. She talks soooooo fast I can hardly follow. =D

I Passed!: Ateneo Center for Organization Research and Development's Developing Program Design and Evaluation

Friday, November 28, was the last day of the training at Ateneo de Manila University. I must say that I enjoyed it so for I learned a lot of things about organizational development and made me realize that the world is bigger than I thought. This is the same realization that I told my trainer about how I see the whole training before filling up the survey/evaluation form.

Ateneo Center for Organization Research and Development's (Ateneo CORD) Developing Program Design and Evaluation is such an eye opener for me. It lead me into thinking that designing and developing a training program is not that easy for it requires experience, training, and expertise. Let me share the class pic. :) I am the the guy in white polo (left).

My fellow participants work from different industries while some are involved in social work. To sum up the list, the Developing Program Design and Evaluation training consists of people from Philippine-Australia Community Assistance Program (PACAP), LG Electronics, Bohringer Ingelheim, Unilab, and eTelecare.

What makes the training exciting is that aside from the training itself, you learn from the experiences of the participants and their insights to the training's content. This includes discussing things about what makes the content unique and what makes their working environment far from what the standards training tells us. Well, another lesson from employment and skill diversity. I hope that you enjoy my quest to improving my understanding about organization development for I did. :)

Second Day High: Ateneo CORD Developing Program Design and Evaluation

A'last I survived the first and second day of the Ateneo CORD Developing Program Design and Evaluation training. It was fun and very enlightening but there are areas which I find really interesting. I was like a total tabula rasa. I can hardly provide input to most of the things that they're discussing but I do get some chance to talk at least LOL !

Three more days to go. I missed Angeles City and my friends there, too. Well, let me share some of the picture I took here in the Astoria Plaza. I promise to post more pictures. Too bad I have no SLR camera. I'll keep SE810i as my bestfriend as of this moment. Enjoy!

First Day High: Ateneo CORD Developing Program Design and Evaluation

My first day here in Ateneo de Manila University is just so exciting but I love The University of the Philippines Diliman better. Just the place I guess. :D Hehehe. The training program is going smoothly with just 10 participants signed up for the training. 4 days to go to complete the entire training. =D As promised here are the pictures I took at the site and some of the pictures at Astoria Plaza. Enjoy!

Twilight Starbucks

In my previous post, I mentioned that a friend and I planned on watching Twilight Movie. I thought its already showing in the cinema but we realized that it wasn't when we logged on to SM website before we left the house so we decided to just go out and eat at Ikabud.

Ikabud is an authentic Kapampangan resto and it's known for its delicious local cuisine. But the crablets we ordered which were supposed to be small were like huge crabs! The sisig we ordered doesn't taste good, too including the black sago't gulaman (a kind of local refreshment). It was a disaster. I dunno what happened to Ikabud Clark but we always visit the place whenever we do team bonding activities. Nevertheless we paid the bill and headed to Starbucks.

Well everybody loves the costly Starbucks coffee. I brought my laptop just so we could try the Starbucks hotspot. Well, it turned out be a hotsh*t! The connection is so slow (56kps) and it always cuts me off! Imagine all the hassles I experienced today. :( We decided to just leave and go home before anyhing bad happens to us. I am packing up to prepare myself for the workshop tomorrow at the Ateneo University in Manila which was once Jose Rizal's school. He's hated there. :D Hehehe.

Twilight

Twilight The Movie PosterTwilight The Movie Poster
Twilight is today's talk of the town. I had no idea what it was until I stumbled on a website and read a few chapters of the book last week. Apparently, the content of the book leaked online and everybody can download it and ready to be printed anytime. :(

Twilight is a story of a teen named Isabella "Bella" Swan who fell in love with a vampire named Edward Cullen. According to my readings, Twilight is a series of books which was originally published back in 2005 which makes me think as to why it's just now that it started gaining international fame. Honestly speaking, I never read any novel other than Jose Rizal's El Filibusterismo and Noli me Tangere which comes as a prerequisite requirement in High School education hehe!

A friend invited me to watch the movie so I am thinking that this will give me a reason to stop reading the book itself :D I'll be writing a short review of the movie later today just so I can give you a heads up if you would rather read the book or watch the movie instead :D See yah!

My first Sony experience is with my Sony Ericcson K810i

Writing is my passion. This fact helped me discover blogging back in 2005. I started out with just plain writing; telling things about myself, my interests, and my daily complaints in life. =D I realized that my blog can be more entertaining if I'll put pictures in it but digital cameras back then were expensive for an 8-5er like me. I also thought that things could be more exciting if you can do blogging via phone! I never thought that all of these are possible through Sony Ericsson K810i! =D

I bought my Sony Ericsson k810i back in December 2007 and started using it for blogging, video-capturing, and picture-taking. The good thing about this model is that, it has a built-in Blogger tool that you can use to automatically post your blog directly from your cellphone to make it immediately available over the net. It also has the most powerful, high-resolution 3.2 megapixel phone camera available in the market that year so everybody were envious of me. =D I love taking pictures. In fact, 98% of the pictures in my blog were taken using my Sony Ericsson k810i phone.

I used to be a Nokia user but am now a Sony gadget fanatic because of its wealth of features that anyone can enjoy! It definitely gave significance in my life just like the Sony’s World’s First World’s First Slimmest Camera with Optical Image Stabilizer which helps me get the best quality pictures whenever, wherever.

Ateneo CORD's Developing Program Design and Evaluation Workshop

I am so thankful and proud for being given the chance to participate in the Ateneo CORD's Developing Program Design and Evaluation Workshop to be held at the Ateneo CORD Training Center in Ateneo de Manila University from November 24-28 in Manila. This workshop is intended for professionals who works in the field of Instructional Design. This will surely help me apply some of the existing systems and techniques in producing effective and useful leadership content at work. So wait for the pictures. :)

What a busy week that was! My meeting with my bosses was so fruitful that I am starting to learn the art of budgeting my time and resources. Perhaps, I sometimes feel that I am pushing myself too hard because I feel like wanting to know everything there is to learn in instructional design overnight.

We will stay in Astoria Hotel in Manila for the entire week although we originally booked in Richmond. But I think they want more money for extra bed so we hold it back and considered another option. I will keep you posted about everything that's gonna happen next week so stay tuned. :)

Separation Anxiety? Me?

I just realized that I have been experiencing this sort of feeling lately because of the chain of incidents that had happened for the past few weeks. I asked my mom to have a manicurist visit us at home to do pedicure service since I feel like my toe nails are about to explode because of my lack of hygienic attention =D Sorry hehe.

While the manicurist is doing her thing, she kept on talking about the things that's been happening to her life and belting out litany of all her bitterness in life. I continued listening while I was writing something until I heard her say the phrase, "I think we might be leaving this place soon for the landlord will sell the place we're renting." Just suddenly, I was stunned and felt that strong sad feeling. Just the same feeling that I felt before especially when friends or a totally unrelated person leave even when I just overheard it from a neighbor or my mom. Such a strange feeling that's been hunting me for years.

Then this morning, I learned that someone from our team is considering going abroad, too. Right at that moment, I felt that same bout of anxiety that lingered all throughout the day. It was so strong that people at work noticed that I am acting weird. I am not trying to scare you guys =D I am still sane. hehehe.

Is this separation anxiety? How bad is it? Do I need professional help? OMG.

Just to remove the boredom I am creating out of this blogpost, I would like to share some of the pictures my friend Cleo took this morning. Here take a look. :)

Sony Ericsson K810i: My Phone

I am camera shy that's why I seldom get a photoshoot of myself. LOL! Kidding. Well, this was taken a few months ago using Sony Ericsson K810i camera cellphone. I always wanted to buy an SLR camera but I guess I need to do a really serious saving to I succeed. :)

I happened to see the pictures when I was browsing through tons of files in my computer. Hope I am not scaring you guys, hehe. :)

Jocelyn "joc joc" Bolante and the Philippine Fertlizer Fund Scam

I just hope that all Filipinos know what's the real score about Jocelyn "Joc Joc" Bolante's involvement with the PhP 728 Million Fertilizer Fund Scam. He left the Philippines on December of 2005 due to this issue and just got back on October 28,2008.

It is sad to know that despite the fact that a lot of Filipinos are in deep financial distress, plagued by diseases, and homeless a lot of Philippine Government officials are continuously stealing from the government funds. I just can't imagine how they can stomach the fact that they feed their families with something they stole from the "people."

God bless you.jocelyn jocjoc bolante

Equity in the Workplace: The Equity Theory

How do you know when you are not being treated fairly in the workplace? What are your basis and how do you make assumptions in your mind? Do you create your own values of what is fair and what is not or are you someone who just believe on what others have to say?

Stacy Adams, a behavioral psychologist, spearheaded a pioneering research on employee motivation about how individuals in an organization perceive equality in the workplace. He found out that each employee make his own personal calculation according to how much input (Time, Effort, Loyalty, Hard Work, Commitment, Ability, Adaptability, etc...) he puts on the job and how much outcome (somethings put on the job such as salary, employee benefit, expenses, recognition, reputation, responsibility, etc) and compare that to someone who he believes performs the same amount of input and outcome as he does. If any of the values are not the same, issue of inequality surface.

equity theory diagram by julius marianoEquity equation
Picture taken from wikipedia

This is perhaps a valid view of how people view fairness in the workplace. But things are not usually expressed in numbers. People usually assign their own personal values about their own input and outcome to what others have to put on their respective jobs and arrive in a conclusion that all things are equal and inequality isn't happening in the workplace.

According to Adams, once an employee perceive inequality, he or usually resorts to any of these efforts:

1. alter inputs/outcome (for example: lowers amount of effort on the job)
2. distort input/outcome in the job (change the way he sees the situation and think that the other person is putting a lot than what he or she puts on the job).
3. demands increase in outcome (e.g. increase in salary or recognition, responsibility
4. terminate relationship (resignation or leave the organization)

Pretty nice thinking. Well, is that how you perceive equality in your workplace as well?

On Friends and Becoming a Bit Healthier

I am blessed with good friends and workmates. I was unhappy for the past few years at work but when I started working for another department, I regained that spark I once felt when I was just starting. Happiness at work usually depends on the people you work with and how you portray the character resting in you.

I feel that my going to the gym made me a little healthier. I am starting to see my face becoming rounder again and am becoming increasingly tolerant to stress. Unfortunately, I can only visit the gym 2 times or three times a week. :( With all the projects I am required to finish, I guess, visiting the gym frequently may not be possible.

Massive Adaptation

What a week that was! I feel that I am so overwhelmed with all the tight deadlines I have at work. The toxicity of the corporate environment is starting to dawn on me. =( But despite of that, I feel that I am learning a lot and 24 hours is not enough to catch up with all the learning that I am required to do. =)

I submitted the initial draft of my leadership-related module to my reviewers which happened to be my managers as well just a few hours ago. I basically am not confident with what I have written but I hope that they will be able to provide recommendations as to the things that I need to improve on inasmuch as my writing style is concerned. Instructional design and creative writing absolutely requires different writing styles and standards.

I am not sure if I am just trying to push my self too hard about learning my work fast but I feel like I am not producing enough of what is expected of me. Although I make it a point that I am productive for that entire 9 hours of my work. I really am starting to fall in love with my work...

Discrimination of Fellow Asians

Discrimination was the topic of our discussion when we were having our lunch just this afternoon. Most of my friends usually go to Singapore to travel since that is one of the nearest Asian countries that you can visit from the Philippines and most affordable, too. And unfortunately, all of their horrible discrimination stories also happened in Singapore. A friend of mine who works in Malaysia who frequents Singapore also experienced the same thing, too, before.

I shouldn' be blogging this but I believe that the public should know how serious discrimination is to most people and we as humans should consider it a crime.

Discrimination affects all of us, not just the person who is being discriminated but the person who does the discrimination as well. When people discriminate, the person creates an identity towards the person who is being discriminated. This identity resonates through its nationality, its color and its education. This should explain why people of certain color, nationality, race or education are being branded for such act.

There are horrible tales and stories which I consider not fit for discussion here but these are just the same eating in a restaurant, buying in a supermarket, dress shop, etc., scenarios where the person is given less or virtually no attention at all they think that the person has no capacity to pay or something. So horrible.

I am sorry for venting but this is a social issue that we all must not take for granted since this concerns everybody. I just hope that these people be spared from the wrath of God. Listening to discrimination stories makes me really uncomfortable and angry. Do you guys have similar stories to tell about discrimination?

Trust

When I try to look back at how I was before, I can say that I have matured enough; enough that I think am no longer overly affected just by simple bouts of emotional pain. But perhaps one thing that I still can't learn how to deal with is when I lost the trust to someone who promised to do something but never did anything to accomplish it.

I had a few good friends whom I lost that trust; trust that binds us together. I sometimes feel that I am so unforgiving that I no longer see the beauty of the people around me who have loved me but somehow fell short on committing to a certain promise.

Issues about money, appointments, or just as simple as telling someone that you will do something for them but intentionally or unintentionally forgets to do so. I know that its a human nature to forget or fall short on doing something but I always believe that there are limitations to that. When you commit on doing something, you just basically tell another party to commit to the same promise and expect that it will be done for them. Perhaps, I am just becoming idealistic and just becoming so unreasonable. But hey, I am also human at the very least.

I won't go into details anymore but at least I am learning and I am starting to know the people whom I need to trust. This also reminds me of a friend who deserted me when my mother was so sick and almost died. I felt so alone and surprisingly, those whom I didn't expect to help were there for me and never left me in my entire ordeal. Thanks to you.

I just pray that one day, the pain that I feel inside is gone forever and all that I feel is a blissful peace and serenity...

Cockroaches as Clean Insects?

I should be sleeping by now but due to a stupid cockroach, I got up and blogged instead. Just when I was about to close my eyes, I saw something moving near the window. I didn't budge thinking that it was just nothing but I saw that a little creature started crawling towards me! I had a perfect hunch that it was a cockroach and I immediately went up and turned the lights on. I was right and I saw the cockroach almost reaching my pillow! God knows how I hate these creatures! I can die of a heart attack just the thought of them flying over me!

I immediately went to the living room and got something to kill it. I dunno what I got but it was something soft. I know time is running out and I need to kill it before it goes somewhere. I hit it hard with, oh yeah, a mat but I miss! It went to my cabinet. The roach might have thought that I will give up. Never! I moved the cabinet and there I saw the stupid cockroach hiding. I aimed at hitting it but it immediately went over the piles of books next to it! I moved the books and there I saw that damn insect. I got the chance to hit it once more and I did! I hit it with the mat i'm holding until it finally died. Goodness. 2 hours had passed and I am still awake. Still trying to recover from that trauma.

I dunno but my fear of cockroaches started when I was still young. I don't fear rats or any other insects but I fear creatures with creepy legs such as cockroaches and spiders. My fear of these creatures is not the ordinary fear that others feel because I feel like dying when I see them moving towards me.

I read an article that I researched over the internet and I learned that cockroaches are clean insects. This is in contrast with our popular belief that they are dirty or something like that but they carry with them some scents that may cause the onset of asthma attack which is called tropomyosin which is a special kind of protein that they produce to attract species of their kind. Cockroaches have knack of cleaning themselves through frequent rubbing and that makes them quite hygienic. They are just as dirty as the environment you provide them in the first place. If your house is filty chances are they will spread the same kind of dirt they are into in the first place. But despite these facts, I still dont' care. :( They are creepy and that remain a fact.

I hope I can still sleep since I have to work later at 8 AM. =( I told my mom to disinfect the whole whose later this morning and apply some insecticides, too. I guess I need to do some general cleaning this week.

Working out of Job Description: OFW Problems and more

Going abroad has always been my dream. I attempted so many times to leave although every time I attempt to do so, there will always be something that hinders me from doing it: from an opportunity to work on an exciting project here at work or my mom or my dad getting sick.

I always envision a good life abroad or something like that. That same reason entices me to go and leave our country and find that "greener pasture." A friend of mine who works in Malaysia used to be happy with what she is doing until she was finally assigned to a different position that is totally different to what she originally signed for when she left the Philippines. I always comfort her whenever I get the chance to chat with her online because of injustices her boss is doing to her everytime she works. I just feel so worried for my friend and advised her to pay the cost of the breach of contract and leave Malaysia before something wrong happens to her.

That's the pain that we have to pay for working overseas sometimes. You have no control to what your boss will tell you to work on even if its not part of your original job description. This usually happens in Asia and in the Middle East I guess.

I just hope that things will get well with my friend and she will be able to figure out what's the best thing to do. I told her to go to the consulate or Philippine Embassy in Malaysia just in case any untoward incident happens. I will pray for you my friend...

As promised, here is the picture of the laptop I am currently using. Its the Dell Latitude D630. I don't understand much of the features listed in this site but I guess by the looks of it, it provides me with multiple features and options that will be of benefit to me personally and the kind of work that I do in the coming days.

Thanks for visit! :)
