My friend asked me:
Friend: Where do you work?
Jules: @___
Friend: Why not go abroad? You'll be successful there.
Jules: Ha?
It saddens me that people define success by how much money we earn and how much savings we have at the bank and how many cars we have or whatever. Success is relative and is defined differently by every individual.
I don't believe that we become "successful" by acquiring something; I think that we become successful by appreciating the effort that we do as part of achieving our goals because we know that we did our best and gave everything that we have and realize that we have touched other people's lives along the way.
Next time we assess if someone has achieved success, think about counting your hair strands. It probably ends when we finally made the final count.

Too true, I don't measure success by material gain either!!
success goes hand in hand with happiness. you feel successful when you appreciate everything that you have accomplished. to be successful is to be happy. =)
These days we always have to remind ourselves that the greatest achievement is to do what you really like and to do your best! Money will not give you that kind of satisfaction. Have a nice week, Monika
=) lately people equalize success by monetary amount, not by how they enjoy it or how much they learned on something, which is sad right.. haha.nice topic :D
"I think that we become successful by appreciating the effort that we do as part of achieving our goals" - VERY EXCELLENT LINE.. I LUV IT.
Agreed with ya thoughts.. nice post!
Take care
you are right. it is relative. there is the status quo, of course, that which your friend was trying to point out. however, success is clearer to those who live it -- those who don't define it by the world's standards.
Success without fulfillment means nothing! and most people are successful, but not happy or fulfilled...

sucess is determined by happiness, though it can be difficult to remember that admist all the pressures of social conformity.

success is in the eyes of the beholder.
So true. I think people have this stigma of equating success with material possessions.
I think success is all about happiness, not how much stuff you have. Or where you live. It's a shame so many people focus on what they have instead of who they are.
